ME

From Chaos to Calm

I’m Sue Panciocco, a parent advocate and coach with firsthand experience raising two teenagers with ADHD, ASD, and learning challenges. Later in life, at 40, I was diagnosed with ADHD, and it became apparent that my husband likely has it too.

I sensed something was different about my first child from the beginning, but no one else understood. I followed the advice to be firmer, establish routines, and implement consequences, but these traditional approaches did not yield the expected results.

Despite seeking therapy, occupational therapy, and medication for my children, I found myself feeling even more lost after each doctor’s appointment or therapy session. The expected improvements in their behavior were not materializing, and most days, I felt like I was simply surviving. Well-meaning friends, family, doctors, and even my husband had their own opinions on what I was doing wrong.

I tried various parenting strategies that are commonly recommended, such as reasoning, insisting, and punishing. However, it quickly became evident that these methods were ineffective for my children. Those methods seemed to exacerbate their behavior.

Over the past decade, I have immersed myself in researching ADHD, reading parenting books, attending webinars, and taking courses. My goal was to find strategies and insights that would help my children develop into successful, resilient, and self-reliant adults. This newfound knowledge transformed the way I perceived my kids. Instead of viewing them as defiant troublemakers, I saw them as individuals struggling and in need of guidance. This shift in perspective shed light on why conventional approaches were failing.

That “lightbulb” moment changed everything I thought I knew about parenting. Today, I genuinely enjoy being a parent and cherish the time I spend with my children. We engage in calm and respectful conversations, working together to solve problems instead of engaging in screaming matches. Rather than dreading their return home, I now feel a sense of happiness and anticipation.

Our family has transformed into the harmonious unit I had always envisioned, no longer engulfed in stress and chaos. My children have gifted me with patience, empathy, and compassion. I no longer see them as a source of frustration but as beautiful flowers blossoming into amazing adults.

Driven by my personal experience and my transformation, I now devote my time to supporting and empowering other parents facing similar challenges. I am passionate about sharing the knowledge and strategies I have acquired, helping families create nurturing environments where children with ADHD, ASD, and learning challenges can thrive
